Our History
Mike and Suzanne Schumann opened Traditions in a newly renovated 1,500-square-foot storefront at the corner of Selby and Dale in St. Paul’s historic Ramsey Hill neighborhood. Alongside other pioneering businesses, Traditions helped spark the revitalization of Selby Avenue as a vibrant retail and dining destination.
The flagship store relocated to Grand Avenue, one of the Twin Cities’ premier shopping districts.
A second location opened in historic downtown Stillwater, Minnesota—the state’s oldest city.
Traditions expanded into Minneapolis with a third store near Bde Maka Ska, serving the growing western metro area.
To support Minnesotans with winter homes, the Stillwater location transitioned to Naples, Florida, establishing Traditions as a trusted furniture destination in Southwest Florida.
The Minneapolis showroom moved into a renovated 1941 building on Excelsior Boulevard in St. Louis Park, offering expanded space and improved accessibility.
Traditions continued to grow with the opening of their “sister-store,” The Studio, located across the courtyard from the St. Louis Park store.
